Bryony-Rose Jarman Pinto
Visual artist Bryony-Rose Jarman Pinto explores her personal experience of being mixed race and suggests that there is so much more to this label that simply black and white. Through multiple layers and narratives her extraordinary work is created out of a desire to unravel a confusion – whether this be of race, identity or femininity. [website]
Hannah Reilly
Mixed-media visual artist Hannah Reilly has created an affecting and inherently ‘human’ series of work using patches created by asylum seekers and refugees from the North of Glasgow. Their faces are portraits of the individuals within this hidden community. We are invited to explore and question the ways in which we project and perceive identity between the viewer and the individual, between ourselves and the ‘other’.
Thomas Wells
In a frank documentary that will subvert your perspectives, Manchester Based Installation and Performance artist Thomas Wells looks at the nature of the ‘gay cure’ and therapies available to those who unfortunately believe – or are told – that they are ‘afflicted’ by a condition that should be cured.
Eileen Daily
Visual Art and Film-maker, Eileen Daily challenges identity, the politics of representation and self-determination in this motivated exploration of the problems that arise in representing the ‘other’. After working with an English-language class of new immigrants into Glasgow this surprising work examines the simplification of the ‘other’. Using language as a means of control, how lives are reduced to digestible symbols, notions or concepts.
